Spanish Inspired

Since The Brownstone Cafe is located in the romantic Spanish themed Villa del Sol, we are always drawn to wedding design and inspiration that is inspired by a colonial Spanish theme. This wedding is so picturesque with the multi-colored mosaic candles and coasters, the large creamy white flowers, the fine gold accents and the decorated motif candels are so sublty sophisticated.
Do we even have to mention the brides dress? Full lace, complete with a cathedral veil.

A Touch of Elegance

Last night marked the official beginning of Wedding Wednesday 2011.  At Brownstone, we don’t like doing things small.  We went all out for our first Wedding Wednesday of the year with an “Elegant Bride” theme.  The return of elegance and sophistication is making a comeback this year and we wanted to show our brides the best ways to keep things classy while putting their own personality into their wedding.

We had an amazing turnout of vendors and guests.  Brea Community Center and the First Congregational Church of Anaheim were two venues that made it out to Downtown Fullerton to speak with brides about their event space.

Alfred Angelo and Allen’s Tuxedos, two WW regulars, showed their newest styles in wedding fashions.  A very interesting thing about Alfred Angelo’s new line is that it was inspired by Disney Princesses.  My favorite ones: the Belle and Ariel inspired wedding dresses.

Patty’s Cakes sampled her wedding cake flavors for guests and Lavender’s Flowers brought in beautiful white flowered arrangements.  Other vendors that were able to make it out to our event are Quinto Sol Entertainment, Davis Barber Productions, Damion Lloyd Photography, Sunny Hills Travel and The Hep Kittens.

And of course, we can’t forget the food!  Last night we served Beef Wellington Bites, Creamy Dill Meatballs, Asparagus with Prosciutto and Bruschetta with Sundried Tomatoes.  The next Wedding Wednesday is scheduled for February 23.  Stay tuned for details or email us for more information.

Wedding Trends 2011

Brownstone’s Top 10 Wedding Trends

Trends come and go, but class and style always leave their mark.  These top 10 trends have been surfacing these past few months and I’m glad to say that I’m happy to see some of these things on the list.  So, here it is: the top 10 wedding trends for 2011!

1. Simple, but delicious & high quality menus

We’ve notice a lot of brides wanting to get back to the basics and not wanting to go over the top when it comes to food.  Luckily for you, Brownstone Catering offers a variety of fresh and high quality menu ideas to fit your style and budget.  Check out our sample menus here.

2. Outdoor and Scenic Venues

Fortunately, living in Southern California has a few perks such as mostly sunny days.  Why not take advantage of our blue skies and have your wedding outside?  Rather than hosting a reception indoors, partying outdoors is much more fun and relaxing.  There are many venues in the Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside Counties that offer beautiful scenery to do this.  One example is the beautiful Villa del Sol in Downtown Fullerton.

3. The Return of Vintage

Having an “old school” feel to your wedding has caught the eye of many brides and grooms.  From renting vintage cars as transportation to holding your ceremony and/or reception at a historical site, it is understandable couples want to feel that their day is a part of history.  This type of nostalgia creates a more romantic and intimate atmosphere.

4. The Ball Gown

If you paid attention to the 2011 bridal runway shows, it’s hard to not notice that ball gown wedding dresses owned the catwalk.  Designers chose tulles and chiffon to create layers of volume.  With a royal wedding around the corner, I can imagine lots of women want to feel like a princess. Who said you couldn’t have your fairy tale inspired dress after all?

5. Stylish grooms

It’s true most people will pay attention to the bride on their wedding day.  But this doesn’t mean the grooms can’t get dressed up.  Men have started to add touches to the classic tuxedo with their own personal style. Don’t expect to see too much black since gray and even navy blue suits have been getting lots of attention in the past few months.

6. D.I.Y.

This concept is probably one of the biggest trends.  It may have stemmed from a bad economy, but these personal touches make weddings that much more memorable. From making your own placecards to your own centerpieces, it’s all up to you.

7. Eco-friendly

Eco-friendly anything has been on the rise within the past year.  Blame it on the economy or global warming, but most couples are choosing to go green and opting out of printing invitations,save-the-dates, placecards and anything else you can think of.  Some have decided to go completely paperless or printing on recycled paper.

8. Modern elegance

As I mentioned, brides are more attracted to going back to the basics.  Wedding décor is much simpler with touches of modern design.

9. Textured Wedding Cakes

Other than the bride and groom, the wedding cake is one of the other main focuses of the reception.  Butter cream frosting has had a sudden resurgence.  Rather than having fondant flowers, more bakeries are choosing fresh flowers.  One of our favorite bakeries is Patty’s Cakes.  Tying in your cake stand into the rest of the overall wedding theme is a detail that shouldn’t be overlooked either.

10. Social Media Surge

Facebook, Twitter and blogs have been surging into popularity within the past couple of years.  More couples are keeping guests, family and friends updated on their wedding plans and other couple news through these mediums.  It’s quick and easy and allows for family and friends to offer advice and opinions. Are you on Facebook, “like” us. On Twitter, “follow” us and get up to date information on what we’re up to.

Heidi & Chip

In November, we catered a beautiful ceremony and reception at the Villa del Sol here in Downtown Fullerton.  We would have posted sooner, but we just got the photos in.  What’s the point of blogging about a wedding if there are no pictures?

Recognize the scenery? No? This is in Downtown Fullerton!

Where else could this be I wonder? Yup, you guessed right.  They had their ceremony and reception at the Villa del Sol, also in Downtown Fullerton, right where the Brownstone Cafe is located.  And yes, you better believe we catered their wedding.

If you didn’t know, outdoor weddings are one of the biggest wedding trends of this year.

Congratulations to the newly (well, 2 months) married couple! It was such a beautiful wedding.  Photos courtesy of Jen Disney Weddings.

Christina & Steve

Whether you believe in numerology or are just superstitious, the date October 10, 2010 or 10/10/10 can mean a lot of things to different people.  But to Christina and Steve, it was the happiest day of the beginning of their lives together.

Brownstone Catering was ecstatic to help the happy couple plan and cater their wedding.

Christina chose beautiful autumn colors such as oranges, reds and browns which worked seamlessly with the beautiful backdrop of Downtown Fullerton.  The whole ambiance of their celebration was warm and worked perfectly with the Spanish inspired setting at the Villa del Sol Courtyard.  The bold orange color was balanced out by dark chocolate brown table cloths and chairs.

One of Brownstone’s preferred vendors, Lavender’s Flowers, created the centerpieces and flower arrangements.

Rather than opting for a traditional flower and vase, Christina and Steve chose a wooden lantern with glass doors and a wooden house.  Dark red and orange flowers adorned the centerpieces, tying in with the autumn theme.

Christina brought in her own avocados for Brownstone’s use to make guacamole which was served along with chips and salsa for the guest’s appetizer.  For dinner, Brownstone created a fajita bar which included chicken and beef with all the trimmings.  ¡Muy Delicioso!

All in all, the reception was a success and Brownstone hopes Christina and Steve all the best!
